Jacob Klempf, came to America in hopes of a better life. At 20-years-old, he arrived on Ellis Island in 1920, and worked as an “egg candler.” He migrated over to the Wisconsin area in the mid 20’s, and purchased eggs from farmer’s wives, cleaning and packaging them to sell to local grocery stores, restaurants and bakeries. His son Edward Klempf learned the business as a child by watching his father, and started Dixie Egg Company in 1948 in Jacksonville, Florida. Today, the company has grown to a multi-site, self-contained operation where Jacques and his family own and oversee everything from their hens to the feed, to the processing plant and delivery trucks.
The health and wellness of hens is a top priority at Dixie Egg Company. Hens live in a state-of-the-art space that allows for them to live comfortably in a climate controlled environment, while additionally reducing the farm’s carbon footprint. Jacques and his family take great pride in delivering only the highest quality eggs – which starts with feeding and treating the hen’s right. They never use hormones or antibiotics of any kind, and because they oversee the whole process from feed to retail, they have complete control over the freshness and quality of their eggs, from their farms to your local stores.
